At Lubov parent participation is necessary to help us provide a clean and safe environment for your children and to provide the quality of care that is necessary. The following are several ways that parents can choose to take part:
Lubov Nursery School Executive Board of Directors:
The Board consists of parent volunteer members along with members from IHMS and St. Anne Church. Members are elected annually at an Annual General Meeting in September. The Board is expected to determine general policies for the nursery school, assist with hiring, support the teachers, encourage and advise the director and staff, ensure the financial stability of the organization through fundraising, personal gifts, government assistance, or other funding organizations and be a responsible manager of these funds and keep the Nursery School operating with the given finances. Positions are open to any interested parent. The most important responsibility is that of CONFIDENTIALITY. The members must commit their time and energy to the nursery school and meet about once a month to ensure the smooth operation of the nursery school.
The President/Chairperson is responsible for:
– the general management of the Association: preside over all meetings(chairperson) for all meetings, organize and plan agenda for meetings, see that all orders and decisions of the Board are carried out, be a liaison between nursery school, government agencies, parents & IHMS, communicate regularly with staff and parents and keep both the board and staff informed of nursery school activities, act as a signing officer, delegate responsibilities for fundraising, meet/communicate regularly with the staff and provide support as needed, meet with parents and take complaints or inquiries, stay on as past president for coaching and mentoring as needed in a non-voting capacity for another year.
The Vice-Chairperson is responsible for:
– performing the Chairperson’s duties in the absence of the Chairperson, will automatically become the president, coordinate volunteers to assist with the nursery school, assist with fundraising as needed, help director revise handbook as necessary, assist director with monthly newsletters(proofread), assist director with organizing, planning and taking registrations as needed, any other duties as required of the Board.
The Secretary is responsible for:
– attending all meetings of the board and act as clerk of those meetings (record & distribute minutes), distribute minutes to parents as requested, keep meeting minutes records up to date and filed, other typing, correspondence, etc. as directed by the president, help with community postings on facebook etc., keep on file all important documents and transfer to subsequent secretary the following year.
The Treasurer is responsible for:
– keeping account of all of the Association’s assets, liabilities, receipts and disbursements, providing an accounting to the president and directors monthly, balance monthly statements, deposit cheques from monthly fees and fundraising, promptly, prepare year- end financial report, prepare yearly budget, have books checked by chartered accountant (someone who is not affiliated with the nursery school) and financial statements ready by November of each year.
**The nursery school also requires parents to volunteer for these various positions:
- Fundraising Coordinator(s) – Assist with printing/distributing kolbassa/cheese order forms, organizing volunteers for packing, collecting & counting cheques. Assist with planning new fundraisers.
- Memory Book Team –Our program has a special tradition of presenting each child with his/her own memory book at the end of each year. A lot of extra work is required to develop, sort and prepare all of the photos/projects that are put into each book. Volunteers are needed occasionally to stay and help keep the preparations up to date. We will post a request for help with memory books when necessary. Under the direction of the teachers, about once per month, we need volunteers to assist with taping pictures on prepared pages (usually during class time).
- Shoppers– We need a shopper from each class to purchase food items for the program for Spring Concert/ Christmas/Farewell. Occasionally pick up photos. Occasionally purchase last minute items.
- Field Trip Coordinator -Assist teachers for planning & booking field trips, collecting money etc.
- Social Projects Coordinator(s)- assist with our giving projects, organizing projects, assist with packing gift bags for the Welcome Home etc.

We do arts and crafts every day. Some arts and crafts projects require preparation such as cutting, gluing, assembling, etc. The teachers will have instructions/directions and supplies for you. You can stay during class time to do craft prep. or take it home.
Before we rotate and put away the toys, we need the toys properly cleaned and disinfected. We will send toys home with you in a bag or you may choose to stay and wash them during class time while your child is at school. From time to time we may ask parents to come into the classroom to clean. Please return them to school as soon as possible. Directions on how to wash them will be given to you.
At Immaculate Heart of Mary Lubov Nursery School we love play dough and need it made new every month. We request the play dough be prepared for the first class of the month that your child attends. For what color to make, just check the calendar and pick one or both colors of the month.
PLAY DOUGH RECIPE:
Mix in medium pot:
1 cup white flour
¼ cup salt
2 Tbsp Cream of tartar
Combine and Add:
1 cup of water
1 Tbsp oil
2 tsp food coloring
Cook over medium heat (on stovetop) and stir for 3-5 minutes. It will look like a “globby” mess, and you’ll be sure it’s not turning out … but it will. It will slowly form a ball in the center of the pot. Keep stirring until all of the liquid is cooked out and you can handle it without it sticking to your hands. Store in an airtight container or plastic bag. Edible but not very tasty. Note: Please make three times the recipe. For color and smell, add 1 package of unsweetened Kool-Aid for each cup of flour; or 1 tsp of flavor extract per cup of flour (lemon, vanilla, peppermint, etc); or 1 tsp spice (cinnamon, nutmeg, etc).
Lots of fun messy activities and water play means we always have a lot of towels and cloths to clean as well as dress up clothes! About every two weeks we will have laundry to send home to be washed, dried and folded. Please return it the next class your child attends or as soon as possible.
We are often in need of a handyperson to make minor repairs, fix toys, hang a shelf and do some painting. We will send out an e-mail request when necessary.
Our dress up clothes and costumes get a lot of wear and often need a bit of repair. If you have a sewing machine and can sew a seam or repair a button, we need you. Please let the teachers know if you have an interest in sewing for us.
